Filming Blog for Jansport Commercial

Our first day of filming was productive. Since my group only consists of Sophia and I and we needed more people for our commercial our friends in the class Darrow, Dellana and Lucas helped us out and were in our film. Today we got through the first three scenes, I was the main actor and Sophia filmed while Dellana, Darrow and Lucas also helped with acting. All three scenes today were filmed on the senior patio. In our first scene we started off at the top of the stairs by the auditorium and I grabbed the Jansport backpack and ran down the stairs. We had to reshoot multiple times because it was difficult to get the timing right when the friends gathered around. In the second scene the student without a Jansport backpack, who Darrow was playing, was having trouble with his bag, it was broken and his books were falling out. After reviewing our first shot we realized we needed to try a different angle because they way the sun reflected off the metal pole. Our second shot turned out perfect, papers and books were on the ground adding the effect of the actor needing help. Third was the scene where the group of friends realize the student without a Jansport backpack needs help. Trying to figure out a good place to walk through where Sophia could also get a good angle was hard. At first we walked straight from the stairs but we realized after reviewing it that we were too far from the bench where Darrow was. So we tried walking to the left closer to the bench, it took Sophia's good camera skills to get the perfect angle where it didn't look awkward where we were walking from. We looked back at all the shots we got to make sure they were good. It was getting really hot outside and soon after we finished our third shot the lunch bell rang. We did not want to shoot on the senior patio where everyone eats lunch so we decided that was enough for today. We went back inside and reviewed all of our footage we edited the length of the clips a little so it would be easier on editing day. Since today was our first day of filming it was hard to get the angles right and figure everything out at first but Sophia and I worked together to get it right. We also got everything ready for the next time we film, all of our scenes were written out with our props ready.
